STYLD.® Silicone FAQ

Everything you've ever wanted to know about premium silicone, answered.

We get asked about our silicone a lot. What it's actually made of. Whether it's really plastic-free. How it stacks up against glass or plastic. We broke it down here so you can feel confident in what you’re using every day.

Quick answer

STYLD.® products are made from 100% premium, platinum-cured, food-grade silicone. FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 certified. German LFGB compliant (stricter than FDA). Zero BPA, BPS, or phthalates. Plastic and microplastic free. Dishwasher, microwave, and freezer safe, rated from -20°C to +140°C (up to +220°C for STYLD.® Chop™).

FDA Approved. LFGB Compliant. Microplastic-Free.

Our platinum-cured silicone meets the strictest global standards:

  • FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 certified
  • German LFGB protocols (stricter than FDA)
  • Zero BPA, BPS, phthalates
  • No taste transfer. No odour. No reactivity with wine, citrus, or acidity.

Food-grade silicone is a non-toxic, non-reactive material made from silica, one of the most abundant natural elements on earth (think sand and quartz). It behaves nothing like plastic. It isn't plastic.

STYLD.® uses 100% platinum-cured food-grade silicone, tested to FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 (the US food-contact standard) and German LFGB (the stricter European standard). It's BPA, BPS, and phthalate free, and designed for daily use indoors and out.

Yes. Food-grade silicone is chemically inert, which means it doesn't react with food or drink, even when heated, frozen, or put through the dishwasher.

Plastic is a different story. Under heat, UV exposure, or repeated washing, conventional plastics can release BPA, BPS, and microplastics into what you're eating and drinking. The European Food Safety Authority and the US FDA have both published on this extensively.

Chemically, silicone sits closer to glass than to a plastic cup. If you care about what touches your food, that matters.

No. STYLD.® silicone is plastic free, microplastic free, and contains no BPA, BPS, or phthalates. Our packaging is FSC-certified card.

This matters because not all "plastic alternatives" are made equal. Many brands use Tritan, polycarbonate, or acrylic and market them as safer plastics.

They're high-performance plastics, but they're still plastics. STYLD.® silicone is a completely different material, made from silica rather than petrochemicals.

Silicone gives you the visual weight and elegance of glass with none of the fragility, which makes it better suited to pools, beaches, picnics, and anywhere a knock is likely. Glass looks beautiful. It was never designed for modern entertaining.

One knock on a tiled poolside or one gust of wind on the beach, and you're sweeping up shards. STYLD.® Bubble and Sweetheart Collections are sculpted to look like glass and feel premium in the hand, while being built to handle real life.

There's also a thermal element most people don't think about. Glass loses temperature fast outdoors, which is why chilled wine warms up the moment it's poured. Silicone doesn't conduct temperature the way glass does, so your drink holds its temperature better in outdoor conditions.

Silicone outperforms Tritan, acrylic, and polycarbonate on both longevity and safety. All four are marketed as durable alternatives to glass. What they're made of is different.

Tritan, acrylic, and polycarbonate are high-performance plastics. They're BPA-free, which is good. They're still synthetic plastics with a shorter usable life than silicone. Over time they can scratch, cloud, or warp.

STYLD.® silicone is non-reactive, highly scratch-resistant, and won't cloud or warp with repeated use. It's also microplastic-free, which most "unbreakable plastic" products are not.

Yes to all three. STYLD.® silicone is temperature stable from -20°C to +140°C, and up to +220°C for STYLD.® Chop™.

Freezer, microwave, and top-rack dishwasher are all fine for everyday use. For best long-term results, we recommend using your drinkware for cold, iced, and warm drinks as your daily go-to, and avoiding prolonged exposure to boiling liquids.

This keeps your pieces looking and performing their best for years.

No. Food-grade silicone is non-porous and non-reactive, which means it doesn't absorb odours or leave flavours behind between drinks. Your morning coffee won't taint your evening wine.

If you ever get a soapy or chemical aftertaste, it's usually detergent residue, not the silicone itself. A proper wash, or a soak in warm water with a spoon of bicarb soda sorts it out quick!

No. Food-grade silicone is non-toxic, chemically inert, and approved for food contact by the FDA (21 CFR 177.2600) and regulators globally including German LFGB protocols.

It doesn't leach chemicals into food or drink at any temperature within its rated range. It contains no BPA, BPS, or phthalates. It's safe for babies, kids, pets, and daily use across a whole household.

No, when it's food-grade and platinum-cured. This is an important distinction. Lower-grade silicone (sometimes called peroxide-cured or commercial-grade) can leach residual compounds. Platinum-cured silicone, which is what we use, doesn't.

STYLD.® silicone is tested to FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and German LFGB, both of which specifically test for migration (the technical term for leaching). It passes both.

Yes. STYLD.® silicone contains zero BPA, BPS, and phthalates. These chemicals aren't used in the manufacturing process. Silicone is made from silica, not from petrochemicals, so BPA isn't something that's added and removed. It's simply not part of the material.

Designed for years of everyday use, depending on how it's used. Based on manufacturer performance data, STYLD.® silicone drinkware delivers:

  • 3–5 years of reliable use under normal everyday conditions (cold, iced, and warm drinks)
  • 5+ years in low-stress indoor environments
  • Shorter lifespan under repeated exposure to boiling liquids or heavy mechanical stress

For everyday use (smoothies, iced coffee, wine, water, room-temperature and warm drinks), your drinkware is designed to perform beautifully for years.

The key is matching usage to the product. Silicone is built for modern entertaining, not as a replacement for a thermos or a tea kettle.

Not in any normal household scenario. STYLD.® silicone is temperature stable up to +140°C for drinkware and +220°C for STYLD.® Chop™. That covers microwave use, dishwasher cycles, oven warming (STYLD.® Chop™ only), and everyday entertaining.

Silicone doesn't melt the way plastic does. It holds its shape under normal use conditions. Repeated exposure to very hot liquids (like daily boiling water) does gradually accelerate aging over time, so we recommend cold to warm drinks as your everyday go-to.

Yes, through specialist silicone recycling facilities rather than kerbside bins. Silicone can't go in household recycling because most municipal systems aren't set up to process it.

The most eco-friendly thing you can own is the thing you never have to replace. Durability does the heavy lifting here.

A STYLD.® Bubble Goblet used daily for years replaces hundreds of single-use cups and the breakage cycle that comes with glass. That's the real sustainability story.

At end of life, recycle through a silicone-specific program rather than kerbside.

Yes. STYLD.® silicone is non-toxic, BPA/BPS/phthalate free, FDA and CPSIA approved (the US standard for children's products), and tested to the standards required for baby and kids' products.

This is why our drinkware works across a whole household. The same goblet that works for your dinner party works for your four-year-old's juice at the beach. Chew, drop, knock over. None of it's a problem.

Because platinum-cured food-grade silicone costs significantly more to manufacture than conventional plastics.

The raw material is different (silica-based, not petrochemical), the curing process uses a platinum catalyst rather than peroxide, and the manufacturing tolerances are tighter to meet FDA and LFGB testing.

You're also paying for a product that's built for repeated use. A $39.95 set of Bubble Cups, used for cold and warm drinks across years, works out cheaper per use than cheap plastic cups that scratch and warp within months.

To get the most out of your drinkware:

  • Use for cold, iced, and warm drinks as your everyday go-to
  • Dishwasher safe (top rack)
  • Microwave safe
  • Freezer safe
  • Store stacked or flat. No special handling needed.
  • For a deep clean, soak in warm water with a spoon of bicarb soda
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to boiling liquids for best long-term results
  • Avoid harsh abrasives and bleach

Treat it like a favourite mug. Use it. Wash it. Repeat. It's made to be lived with.
